As we recognise Mental Health Awareness Week alongside National Walking Month, it’s the perfect opportunity to focus on simple, effective ways to support our mental wellbeing. This time of year is all about encouraging positive habits, building connections, and reminding ourselves that small steps can make a big difference.
How Classes Can Support Mental Wellbeing
Taking part in classes whether fitness, wellbeing, or mindfulness-based—offers more than just physical benefits. They play an important role in supporting mental health too:

A Sense of Community
Classes bring people together. They create a welcoming space where you can connect, share
experiences, and feel part of something bigger.

Routine and Structure
Having a regular class to attend each week gives you something to look forward to and helps create a positive routine.

Reducing Stress
Movement and mindful activities help release tension, improve mood, and provide a break from everyday pressures.
Building Confidence
Trying something new or progressing in a class can boost self-esteem and give a real sense of achievement.
The Power of Walking

Walking is one of the most accessible ways to improve both physical and mental health. It’s free, flexible, and suitable for all fitness levels. Even a short walk can help clear your mind, lift your mood, and increase energy levels.
National Walking Month is a great reminder that staying active doesn’t have to be complicated—sometimes, it’s as simple as putting one foot in front of the other.
What We’re Doing
To celebrate National Walking Month, we’ve launched something a little different—our HUG
WhatsApp group.

This initiative is all about coming together, staying motivated, and supporting each other in a relaxed and positive way.
We’re encouraging all members to join the group, get moving, and share their progress
At the end of each week, you can submit your total step count
It’s not a competition—there’s no pressure or comparison
Instead, it’s a simple way to stay accountable, build healthy habits, and keep each other motivated
The goal is to create a supportive environment where everyone feels encouraged, no matter their starting point. Whether you’re walking daily or just getting started, every step counts.
Let’s Walk Together
Mental wellbeing doesn’t require big changes—just small, consistent actions. By combining movement, community, and support, we can all take meaningful steps towards feeling better.
Join us this month, get involved in the HUG WhatsApp group, and let’s make walking a habit that supports both our physical and mental health—together.
